Munich - Shopping

It's easy to spend a little fortune on your shopping tour through Munich. Partly this is because there is such a wide...

...choice of shops. Another reason is that Munich in general is quite exclusive and elegant. Especially in this category one can find very good shops. If this sounds appealing to you, the Maximilianstrasse, Residenzstrasse and Theatinerstrasse are the places to go. If you are looking for the big international chains, flagship stores of international brands as well as department stores then Neuhauserstrasse and Kaufingerstrasse are the best places to go. They are right in the city centre and stretch from Hauptbahnhof to Marienplatz and then north to Odeonsplatz.

If you, however, are looking for smaller and more interesting shopping possibilities then Schwabing is worth a visit. The shops here are funkier and there are a large number of small boutiques. In the area north of the university, especially in Tuerkenstrasse and Theresienstrasse one can find numerous antique shops.

As a general guideline shops open between 9am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. Larger ones will close at 8pm. On Saturdays shops close earlier sometime between 2pm and 6pm.
